The importance of materials is highlighted in all life span phases of a nuclear facility. All stakeholders: the regulator, licensee and supply chain companies, must have the people who clearly understand the requirements and how they will be met. Competence development is needed at the beginning of an investment project, and it must be continued all along. In addition to addressing all relevant technical topics, one must keep in mind organizational aspects and take care of safety culture. Building on Finnish and Polish experience, this workshop will deliver an overview on competence building related to materials in nuclear power plants. The workshop will present lessons learned and best practices, discuss the related aspects in the Polish nuclear programme, and elaborate potential ways forward in collaboration.
